Kindergarten Testing

Yesterday we had kindergarten testing, and well it was definitely a rough day for Caleb, at first things went pretty well the first person to test him was a woman and he seemed pretty at ease with her which in all honesty is quite rare for him, she asked him basic questions, identifying colors which he was able to do some of, identify shapes and he was also able to do this for the most part, then she went through number and letters and he had some trouble there, the hardest part for me to watch at this point was when she asked him to try and draw a straight line, a cirlce, a square, etc and he had so much trouble, he cannot hold the pencil in a way that makes writing very possible, he holds it towards the top at the eraser, using his pointer and middle finger and after several tries of showing him how to hold it and him being unable to we moved on, but with her telling me what I already knew ( he need occupational therapy for his fine motor skills) I have already told the board of education this and so has our pediatrician but they insisted he did not need it, guess they see now that he indeed does.
The next phase of testing a man came in to work with Caleb, he was not very comfortable with this gentleman, the man was nice and everything, I just feel that for some reason Caleb did not feel comfortable with him, he worked with him for a few minutes and Caleb did pretty well, then he started kinda withdrawling and pacin the room, then he found the door and become fixated on it, opening and closing it repeatedly, we finally got him to sit bad down and try to work on the test some more, he answered a few more questions, then withdrew and crossed his arms over his chest and refused to answer or even look at the papers, with further prompting he hid under the table, I got him out and then he went in stood between two cabinets with his back to us, at this point it was very clear to both of us that the test was over.
We will not know the full results for a few days, but the gentleman did tell me he absolutely would not recommend Kindgergarten right now for Caleb and would keep him out of kindergarten as long as possible, his recommendation is for special needs pre school, or his current head start since I had stated that I prefer his headstart because I know he is very comfortable with his teachers.
It was a hard day but I feel like maybe the board of education see things from my perspective finally, for the longest time they seemed to have the belief that because he is verbal, he did not require help, yes he speaks some but seems to not understand allot of what he says, yes he is social and no he does not appear different than any other child, but he has autism
This is a picture I took of him on my iphone after i pulled him out from under the table, he looked so sad
